English Vinglish!!

My obsession with English!
I can’t help but write about this topic because I set a new standard of craziness today!
I went shopping for baby clothes with my husband.
Wait! Spoiler alert: All you ‘jumping-to-wrong-conclusion’ people out there, please note there is no good news coming your way. Not from me, NO. Can we continue with my story?
So yeah, baby clothes for my little nephew. The shopkeeper show cased a variety for me to select from. After a little confusion I finalised on three adorable sets.
Suddenly I observed the writing on one of them. Wrong English. Terrible. Something like “….It can be disput and may not returnable”. I was stunned!
Should I overlook the error and choose the set because it’s not like the baby would hate me for selecting clothes that had a grammatically wrong statement! On the other hand, would my conscience let me select the set that was really cute but WRONG? You can make a guess of what I did!!
I apologised to that set(obviously it wasn’t the poor T shirt’s fault that it had an erroneous statement printed on it) and chose another one. Safe one. That had no unnecessary statements!
Well that episode shows you how crazy I can get! Maybe because English has always been my favorite subject or maybe the only subject I have ever truly enjoyed!
Ideally my choice after school should have been arts. But had I chosen arts, I would not have got into this CA profession(that I always curse!) and if it had not been for CA I wouldn’t be married to my husband.
So basically I should learn to not regret my choices and be rather thankful to my instincts.
(Now how did I land up on this Career-choice topic when ‘English’ was today’s topic of discussion!? Kindly excuse me for this unwanted deviation.)
My obsession with the language is not dangerous but it is when people post on social media that my blood boils. Oh, forgot to mention: posts that are a grammatical nightmare!!
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a nice person with my heart in the right place. I don’t mock and I encourage learners. I’m a learner too. But it is when someone, for no reason, attempts to dish out advice in English andΒ the whole thing comes crashing down to being hilarious because of WRONG English.

The Most-Popular-Error awards go to:
1) Loose v/s Lose
People very often get emotional and rant about loosing love, loosing hope, loosing life and I thought ‘loose’ was most appropriately associated with motions!!! πŸ˜›

2) Then v/s Than
I have come across statements like “My English is certainly better then yours”. Oh yes, yes indeed! It most certainly is better ‘than’ mine. But I suggest you keep it a secret! πŸ˜€

On a serious note, I would like to request all those of you who are way better at English to spare this poor soul!
Please don’t curse me for this post, because it was done just to add some humor to our otherwise boring lives!!
Cheers! πŸ™‚

P.S. Thanks dear Mom for calling and correcting a typo! Yes it was a typo!

    1. Yeah I know! They can write ‘tht’ for that. Apparently typing that ‘a’ will be a big waste of time!
‘N’ for And, ‘K’ for Ok and so many more!
Even worse is the wanna and gonna. Absolute wannabe (pun intended)!
