Date: December 16th
I’m halfway through the scary tunnel!
The exams ended a month ago and the results are a month away! It was only this morning that I calculated my marks for what was not the first time and definitely not the last!
It’s also been a month since I blogged. Actually, the funny thing is, my head is always full of ideas for the blog when I have studies to do! Now that I’m done with my exams, I find myself breaking my head to come up with something to write about!
Not only is this super-express 2016 coming to an end but also this particular December could easily find itself in the Guinness World Records for being the month with the highest no. of weddings!
I have had three weddings in the family with one more in the following week! Also, my Facebook page is full of ‘Who married Who’ updates! Suddenly the whole world seems to have got into ‘Marriage mode’!
So, for me as a ‘Bahu’/ ‘Daughter-in-law’, weddings mean saree, jewellery, etc, etc.
For me as a Tomboy, that means trouble and efforts!
Oh don’t get me wrong, I enjoy traditions and customs but getting ready for functions is like fighting a mini battle!
I’ll tell you why! Read on!
1) No matter how early I start to get ready, I’m the last to be done. There’s always something pending! I have to literally be dragged out of the house!
2) Popping those lens into my eyes gets tricky. I often turn into Vicky Malhotra from Baazigar, only difference; my lens fall on the floor and not into the sink! (Thanks to SRK I’ve learnt not to put them on while standing at the wash basin!)
3) Managing my hair that invariably looks and feels awesome till the previous night and miraculously turns awful the next day when I’ve to set them!
4) Draping the saree! I don’t have to express my emotions on this one. All of you know how much I love the whole draping thing! Thank goodness my M-I-L has patience and does it for me while I stand fiddling with the pins!
5) Who says sneakers don’t look good with sarees? That’s unfair to clumsy walkers like me! I don’t blame the manufacturer or the brand but I always manage to break my slippers after stepping out of the house by which time it’s too late to fetch a pair from home or find a cobbler!
I suppose that’s decent enough a description of the trouble I go through! I do like the end result but by then those around me are all tired..(of me too :D)
The family weddings being on my husband’s side, I got introduced to the ‘Haldi’ function, which I must say, I totally enjoyed! I couldn’t help being awe struck by the whole atmosphere! Full of energy and so colorful that it felt like I’d put on rainbow lens!
The awkward part was the ‘dance’ post Haldi. It took all my will to sit with a smile on my face and politely refuse to dance. What I actually wanted to do was to escape from there and go into hiding, after screaming out “I DON’T DANCE!!”
Well, I could have managed to, had they played my list of dance numbers. Unfortunately, my songs are such, they would cause my ‘Love to dance’ husband to do exactly what I mentioned above 😀 😛
Amidst all these weddings, I also managed to fall in love with Emraan Hashmi! Not only did the love overflow but also did the bucket that collected my tears from watching ‘Hamari Aduri Kahaani’…
Celebration time:-
After one and a half years, my F-I-L figured why my round chapatis never turned soft! Such a proud feeling it is to produce the perfect chapatis! Only wish it was earlier!
Confession time:-
After two awkward Haldis, I danced like a maniac in the third one! Don’t know what got into me, but I think I owed my husband a dance!
Phew, I think that’s about my eventful month! Looking forward to an even more eventful month ahead till my results get declared with the hope that I’ll emerge out of the tunnel as a butterfly!
Cheers!
