Happy Friendship day to all!!
Friendship day takes me down the memory lane to that one place I often visit, my school.
Back then friendship day meant making cards for those few special ‘best friends’ and buying a whole lot of colorful bands for the other friends! The funny thing about this whole friendship concept is how we, as kids, had more than one best friend when technically ‘best’ is associated with just one! ๐
Anyway, who am I to reason with the logic when I was no exception!?
Apart from the normal ‘friend’ category, there were two other!
1) you’re JUST a friend!
2) you’re NOT a friend.. (the type you can’t friend-zone!)
Valentine’s day didn’t hold as much importance as Friendship day in those ‘innocent’ days. Besides friends didn’t need that one particular day to tease each other about their ‘crushes’!!
Then there was Raksha bandhan!
Talking about sibling love the first thing that comes to my mind is,
“All Indians are my brothers and sisters” – the most famous line from our pledge that none of us take in the literal sense!
Friends grabbed this chance to get entertained by challenging the girl in ‘love’ to tie the guy a rakhi! Hahaha! Refusing to tie the rakhi only meant digging one’s own grave but tying the rakhi also spelt doom!
If the guy hesitated to get the rakhi tied – “Mann mein laddoo foota” (butterflies flutter in tummy, heart does a happy somersault!)
If the guy happily offered his hand – “Cchan se jo toote koi sapna” (watch your love and feelings go down the drain!)
Been there, done that!! ๐
Of course, nobody took any of this seriously but had we not done any of this, what would we have years later to remember and laugh at!?
Another fun day was the ‘Annual Day’, the preparations for which started a month earlier and that meant getting to bunk lectures! There wasn’t a single year’s function that my friends and I didn’t take part in.. Singing, dancing, drama, whatever we could get ourselves into! Practice gave us authority to roam around freely in the corridors, so we assumed! The excitement of watching someone else’s practice and being watched(secretly) by others was just something else!
Whenย years later, in the present, I come across those photos, listen to those songs we sang and danced on, I find my eyes getting moist. My hand instantly reaches out to the mobile to message friends and relive those moments!
What I often wonder is how people find it easy to preach about letting go of the past and living in the present..blah blah blah, when I just can’t seem to get out of the past! It’s like a part of my soul got locked up in the past and I’m on an adventure to retrieve it!
As life gets busier, meeting up with friends gets harder but on that one rare occasion that we do meet, it’s no less than an explosion! Today turned out to be one such day ๐
P.S.
Dear Friends(those of you I meet not often),
I want you to know that I live less on Earth and more on an imaginary planet where there’s nothing but beautiful memories of the times we spent together.
Love you all.
