The six yard woes..

I’m often reminded that a Saree is the most elegant garment. Obviously a MAN stated that.. a man absolutely clueless of the torment involved in the draping process!!
My husband, on the other hand, has had enough experience(read ‘nightmarish’) to last him lifetime!
From today, he will never mention the word ‘saree’ in front of me, let alone suggest I wear one!!
Can anybody relate to me at all!!??? Or am I the sole unfortunate one??
This post is owing to the trouble I faced this morning in draping a saree. The saree seemed to have a mind of its own. It didn’t care to budge! But my trouble, in perspective, was a lot less intense compared to what my husband faced!
I have sincerely taken efforts at learning the whole process. I’m not greedy.. I don’t wish to look like any Bollywood heroine. I just need the saree to sit securely and look presentable. (Ok, that’s a lie. I’m a painfully demanding girl. But those demands apply when my mother drapes the saree. When it comes to doing things yourself you learn to adjust!)
Among other reasons, I’m also famous for my ability to shed tears at the drop of a hat, but for a saree?? To tell you the truth, cry was not what I did.
I wailed. Like a banshee!! For five whole minutes my eyes and nose turned into malfunctioning faucets! I was a sight nobody would want to imagine!
My guilt won’t let me live in peace if I fail to mention the fact that my husband is bestowed with God level patience, which he eventually lost!
What did the ordeal end in?
A fight with him,
The saree being tossed on the bed only to be substituted with a dress,
Puffy eyes and a blocked nose.
Lesson learnt: Never attempt to do something you know won’t work for you.

Dear newly-married ladies,
You’ll be expected in a saree at every function since apparently the whole world has nothing better to do than look at you. Anything less than a saree can tarnish your image forever! I wish those few like me out there, the best of luck!!

P.S. I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings with this post. Not even the poor saree’s. The fault is in my stars! 😀
